The delicious irony of it
How beautifully fitting that the ignorant, unsophisticated, bible-bashing, religiously bigoted Americans (as Justin Webb might – indeed has - put it) are being disciplined within the Anglican church....for not being bigoted enough.
The Anglican Church, for those of you who may not know, is the official Church of England the head of which is appointed by the Prime Minister. Yes, they still do that here.The American and Canadian Churches have been excluded from one of the Anglican Communion's top bodies after refusing to change their views on homosexuality.
The policy-making Anglican Consultative Council voted them out for three years
over their willingness to ordain gay clergy and bless gay relationships.

Yes, this is just great. We have a Church (CoE) that when it focuses on religion rather than politics can be a force for good. And yet, we have the preposterous situation where the Prime Minister of the Day selects the head of the CoE. On what basis I am sure constitutional experts can let us know. Beats me though.
As I understand it, the PM makes the "recommendation" to the monarch, who makes the appointment. Of course, in this day and age, the monarch is not going to oppose any recommendation.
